Eletech is excited to announce that we’ve hired three new first year apprentices..

A big welcome to Isaac, Chris and Ricky!

Apprenticeship: the beginning of a great career

Isaac, Chris and Ricky started their apprenticeships at the start of January, and they’re each working on a separate installation team. Throughout their four year apprenticeship, they will learn how to:

    • Work safely in various environments
    • Learn about electrical safety
    • Develop a team approach to completing tasks
    • Install and commission various lifts
    • Perform maintenance and mechanical repairs on a lift
    • Fault-find a breakdown, including complex microprocessor motor drive problems

It will be an exciting four years full of hard work, challenges, and a lot of learning. Now let’s introduce the boys:

    Introducing our newest apprentices

Isaac graduated Kedron State High School in 2017. He signed up for an apprenticeship because he liked the sound of doing electrical work. He chose Eletech by chance after seeing an ad for the position available, and he’s glad he did as he’s loving it!

Chris graduated St Augustine’s College in 2016. He’s been chasing an apprenticeship in the lift Industry since he finished grade 12. The varied nature of work and mechanical side of it appealed to him. After completing a year at university, Chris found an ad for an Eletech apprenticeship online and applied. Chris said he’s found the work to be more physical than expected, but he is greatly enjoying it so far.

Ricky graduated Wavell State High School in 2017. He thought the electrical apprenticeship with Eletech sounded a bit different to a normal electrical apprenticeship, and the opportunity to apply couldn’t be passed up. Ricky has enjoyed learning something new every day and greatly enjoys the challenging nature of the work he’s done so far.

We look forward to seeing these young men progress through their apprenticeships as they become an integral part of the Eletech team.

  • Update on the Effect of NBN on Lift Emergency Telephone Systems

As you would know, the NBN network is replacing the existing hard wired telecommunications networks across Australia. This will affect important services such as monitored fire alarms and lift emergency telephone systems.

The NBNTM network does not have guaranteed power supply as the older hard wired network had. As such, the continuity of services for your lift emergency telephone will be compromised. The Lift Code requires a lift phone to be able to operate for a minimum of 2 hours in the event of a power failure.

For your lift to comply with the relevant Regulations, Building Codes and/or Australian Standards, your lift emergency telephone system will need to be upgraded. Eletech will be happy to assist you with this in every way possible.

    Key Points

    • The NBNTM network does not have guaranteed power supply in the event of a power outage.
    • Your lift phone is required to be able to operate in the event of a power outage for a minimum of two hours to maintain compliance with regulations.
    • Building owners and/or managers are responsible for arranging suitable compliant telecommunication pathways for the lift emergency phone services well in advance of disconnection of the existing network.
    • Eletech recommends installation of a Wireless Gateway Device to upgrade your lift phone system currently operating on a standard phone line.
      • This device has a battery back-up which will operate in the event of power outage.
      • It operates on the cellular (mobile) network, with the provider of your choice (eg. Optus, Telstra).
      • Option of a single sim or dual sim card device.
    • Eletech can assist in the supply, installation and testing of a Wireless Gateway device.

For your reference the Commonwealth Government has issued a ‘Migration of monitored fire alarm and lift phone services good practice guide’ . This is to help facilitate a smooth and successful migration of communication services and to support service continuity for the community.
